As COVID restrictions are about to be substantially eased, it is very possible (hopefully probable) that business events like Conferences, AGM’s & Workshops with normal audiences will start up again. Enough with this Zoom nonsense! Let’s start meeting & networking again the way humans were supposed to – face to face and in person!
Zoom events are all very well, but nothing can replace a face-to-face meeting with not just one person online but with any number of people, mingling at an in-person event, discussing this and arguing that with as many folk as are having lunch or during a coffee break.
This is not to say that Live Streaming events is not needed anymore – it is still a very important tool in your arsenal – used most effectively to broaden the reach of your event, catering to individuals who either could not attend due to prior engagements or those residing in another city or remote location.
Online platforms like WebEx and Zoom – while they served their purpose in a time of pandemic – have really done a great disservice to the Events Industry by fostering separation and reducing interpersonal interaction to an virtual image on a computer screen. One hopes that normal interpersonal interactions will start up again – where people can shake hands, have a cup of coffee together and share a lunch and leave online participation (important as it is) to those who may be missing out – for whatever reason – on attending in person.
That is the area where Live Webcasting really shines and hopefully, by this Fall, we can start taking advantage of every method of communication – in person as well as online!
