Beating the COVID Yo-Yo Effect

Here we go again! A Fourth Wave? Now Omicron? When Does It End?

How long are we going to sit by helplessly while wave upon wave of  infections keep those of us in the events business from going back to work?

…and how long do our clients keep postponing important events, month after month, after tiresome month?

Are we going to let this new Omicron mutation beat us down? We wouldn’t have to if everyone agreed to get vaccinated and took safety precautions to keep not just themselves safe, but gave a thought to others as well!

But I digress – this article is not about vaccines or masking – its about getting back to work & holding events as usual, despite the burdens imposed upon us by this virus!

We in the events industry have been deluged by cancellations and postponements due to the restriction on mass indoor gatherings – and rightly so of course. But that doesn’t mean we should throw up our hands and cry ‘uncle’!

If a large ballroom has a 50 person limit or a boardroom imposes a 10 person limit, there is no reason why a previously planned event should not proceed as planned. Has anyone heard of Live Streaming an Event? Hello! It works as effectively for an audience of 10 as for an audience of hundreds!

The very same setup we use for large gatherings works as well for smaller in-person audiences and is as easily broadcast to large audiences, overcoming the space restrictions which keep getting brought back time and again!

A Camera pointed at the speaker (or panel), a mic to capture audio, a laptop to show PowerPoint slides, another laptop to capture the slides into the encoder and feed them into the live stream using Live Video Switching to switch back and forth between views (check out a description of the process) – that’s  all need. Your remote audience can be as large or small as you like and you can still sell tickets to the event online using a fool-proof registration & password system to keep out unwanted intruders. A Live Interactive Chat Screen can bring audience questions and comments to the speaker who can respond in real-time.

Forget about using that amateurish looking Zoom interface and project your webcast as you always did, on a screen on a website that looks and feels like your own. Your own web header, your own logo, your own URL, your own website schema…

I know I speak for most of the events industry when I say that we are sick and tired of this Yo-Yo Pandemic , not just impacting our businesses, but forcing our clients to put off important Conferences, Symposiums, Workshops, AGM’s, Public Forums & Town Hall Meetings, and on and on and on…

Enough is enough, I say!
Let’s give this virus the virtual finger & get right back to work!
