Is Omicron Continuing to Damage the Event Industry?

SHOULD WE LET OMICRON KEEP DAMAGING THE LIVE EVENT INDUSTRY?

Omicron virusToo many professional associations & organizations have unnecessarily abandoned hosting events like conferences (even temporarily) due to this never-ending pandemic.

Whether for medical, legal, technology or business meetings & conferences in general, the restrictions imposed on us by this pandemic, should not be allowed to interfere with the important business of real-time information exchange that our world depends upon.

While some progressive organizations have taken the lead in forging ahead with their events – albeit in a modified fashion, to continue holding meetings, conferences, AGM’s and even public forums, online – for some, the shift to online events may now be permanent.

Some Associations & Conference Organizers have even seen increased revenues from ticket sales to the event, since there is now no limit to the number of online invitees or the added expense of renting hotel ballrooms for in-person events.

Many have resorted to switching from Webcasting to holding Zoom Conferences, not realizing that this takes away from their image as professional organizations.

There is no need to abandon Live Webcasting because of space restrictions – a Live Webcast can be as effective if held from a boardroom containing just a few people – the presenter, the moderator and the videographer/technician – all of them masked, vaccinated and socially distanced of course.

Presenters can be scheduled to arrive at separate, predetermined times so as not to crowd the room and those unable (or unwilling) to attend in person can be brought in remotely, using software much more sophisticated looking than the typical Zoom interface.

A Live Interactive Chat screen alongside the video player allows for audience interaction and Q&A sessions, without the interruptions caused common in Zoom videoconferences.

Not to mention the fact that unlike a Zoom interface, the Live Webcast screen can be customized to any organization’s corporate look & feel, making the whole event look so much more professional.

While holding an event with Zoom may be the quick & lazy solution, any organization worth its salt that really cares about its image and its viewers, should seriously consider returning to Live Event Webcasting as their method of choice for sharing information – if only to return to the value it used to provide to their audience before this pandemic began.
